Docs

Inline Actions are contextual action buttons embedded directly alongside AI-generated content. They provide quick access to common operations — copy, edit, delete, share, bookmark — without requiring users to navigate to a separate menu or toolbar. By placing actions where users are already looking, they reduce interaction cost and support rapid iteration on AI outputs.

Variants

  • Toolbar A horizontal row of icon buttons displayed above or below the content, providing a consistent set of actions.
  • Hover actions Actions that appear on mouse hover, keeping the interface clean by default and revealing options on demand.
  • Floating menu A compact floating button that expands into a radial or dropdown menu of actions when clicked.

Use Cases

  • Copy and share buttons on AI-generated text responses
  • Edit and regenerate actions on individual response sections
  • Feedback actions (thumbs up/down) for response quality
  • Bookmark and save actions for useful AI outputs
  • Quick-format actions on generated content blocks

Best Practices

  • Limit visible actions to 3-5 most common operations; overflow into a menu.
  • Use consistent iconography with tooltips for clarity.
  • Group actions by type: constructive (copy, save), destructive (delete), and navigational (share, link).
  • Visually distinguish destructive actions (delete, discard) from safe ones.
  • Ensure keyboard accessibility for all inline actions.
